Once again I will be reviewing a personal childhood classic of mine. I first got into The Love Bug franchise when I saw Herbie fully loaded back in 2005 and I loved it so much I saw it 2 more times and again and again on DVD. But I had no idea there was already 4 original movies, and I decided to watch them when I found The Love Bug on the shelf of Blockbuster. After watching it I had a better understanding of who Herbie was and how he became a beloved Disney character and a great race car. Me and my older brother then became huge nerds of the franchise and we decided to by all 4 of them on DVD so we could watch them as many times as we wanted. I became so attached to these movies that I started to prefer them over Fully loaded and I now realized it was nothing but a crappy cash grab that brain less children are wasting their lives watching. So I gave away my DVD copy of Fully Loaded and just continued to watch the originals.
My favorites out of the franchise was Herbie goes to Monte Carlo and Herbie goes Bananas. I just rewatched both of them and I still hold both of these movies dearly to me. Herbie goes Bananas takes place in Mexico where Herbie befriends an orphan named Paco, and the 2 of them get involved with 3 criminals who are trying to steal gold from an Inca temple. Herbie and Paco then travel all around Central America to try to outwit the crooks and bring them to justice for stealing the gold. But after rewatching it I noticed a few errors, most of the time the 3 crooks are able to track down Paco and there is no explanation on how they found him. There is another scene where the crooks kidnap Paco with a few witnesses in the background and they don't do anything to stop them. Paco just refers to Herbie as "Ocho" because he doesn't know what his real name is, it would've been nice if he at least found out he was called Herbie this whole time at the end or something, but oh well my mom thought it was cute that he called him Ocho and 8 is pretty much my favorite number.
Anyway as a said before I was obsessed with this franchise as a kid and after rewatching them I still hold it deeply to myself. Herbie goes Bananas wasn't exactly the best Herbie movie to most people but it will always be the best to me, but this is really where the franchise should've ended because Herbie fully loaded is a film that I feel ashamed for watching as a kid and it will NEVER be as good as the originals. I give The Love Bug franchise an A+
